I just got this feeling to pull a tarot card today.  I’d like to say that I’m going to do this every day, but if you know me, then you know that as soon as I decide to do that, I will never do it again.  So, instead of saying I’m going to do this everyday, I’ll just say I’m going to do it when I feel like it… which may be once a day or maybe once a year.  LOL!  Sorry I can’t be more steadfast and consistent, but I’m really not good at sticking to something for long.  So i hope you’ll enjoy it while it lasts!  hehe

Symbols:

The Chariot is one of the Major Arcana in the tarot deck.  It’s symbolism is varied and often paradoxical, with both the black and white “steeds”, the Sun and Moon, male and female, water and fire symbols all together.  It’s both a symbol of war and of standing still, comand and confidence, security and safety as well as fear, insecurity, greed, and selfishness.

Traditonal Interpretation:

Travel, change and movement typify this card. The Chariot is about control – the driver is in charge of the horses pulling the chariot. The Chariot is about getting us to where we want to go, and in this context, it follows naturally from the choices made in the Lovers card. In order to travel at speed, we are generally sitting down or immobile in a protective chamber which moves faster than we can walk or run. This chamber protects us from the elements. A static chamber can be a room or house, where we feel safe and protected. When the Chariot goes wrong, there is an inability to take control of life – it leads us rather than the other way round. Travel plans go wrong. We can not go where we want to.

My feelings:

When I see this card I feel a strong sense of duty, tempered with lack of freedom.  The man in the card usually looks like a general of an army, who seemingly has control of the entire army, but he is held back by laws, by his comander/king/president, and also held back by his own sense of duty.  He may be strong, but is he strong enough to go against all that binds him to where he’s at?  Maybe this is my own sense of duty that speaks to me through this card.  I”m supposed to take care of my family, I’m supposed to work hard, I’m supposed to be a certain way… whether it’s being pushed on me by society, my family, or myself, I can’t say… maybe it’s all of the above.  I feel like I’m a strong person, both spiritually and emotionally, but am I strong enough to  walk away from what I percieve as my “duty” and create the life that I want?

Then again, maybe it’s  a symbol of my inner struggle to accept things as they are and enjoy my life.  It’s not until you can find joy in your life as it is, that you can create a life of your dreams.  So maybe this inner struggle is what calls to me from this card.  Being pulled in so many directions that all I can do is stand still.  I’ve been feeling this way for a while, a little lost, a little frustrated and confused as to where I’m going and how to get there.  It’s all I can do to focus on what I’m doing right this moment, let alone to think about what I want the rest of my life to be like.  So maybe this card is telling me to let go of the reigns for a little while and let the universe chauffer me around showing me the world while I figure out what it is I want.  Maybe I’m not the general in the chariot, maybe the chariot is my limo.   hmmmm…. I like the sound of that!
